ARPAL ExtraCut Knives

  • Processes up to 200 m³ of wood per sharpening. Equipped with reliable knives made from durable AISI 5140 steel, featuring a double sharpening angle and a hardened cutting edge for consistently long-lasting, stable performance.

  • The knives undergo precise heat treatment: the outer layer is hardened to 50 HRC on the Rockwell scale for exceptional durability, while the inner layer remains elastic to prevent chipping. A double sharpening angle further extends their lifespan, allowing for up to six re-sharpenings.

    Tapered couplings allow the blades to be aligned perfectly in one plane, enabling the shredder to handle even the thinnest branches with ease.

  • Unlike rigid connections (splines, keys), tapered couplings do not wear out over time. They eliminate backlashes and allow for precise adjustment of the gap between the blades. In case of overload (over 2000 Nm), the coupling slips, protecting the mechanism from damage.

  • The fastening system uses a groove fit and high-strength class 12.9 bolts with sealant. This design ensures even load distribution along the shaft and allows for quick, precise knife adjustment after sharpening.

In standard shredders, knives tend to shift over time, affecting performance. Our design locks them precisely in keyways and secures them with high-strength bolts, ensuring absolute stability — no shifting, ever.

Using a cardan shaft with a friction clutch

  • For optimal safety and performance, we recommend connecting the wood chipper to the tractor using a Class S8 cardan shaft fitted with a friction clutch.

  • At a critical moment, this system absorbs the impact, preventing damage. Instead of the tractor breaking down or coming to a halt, the wood chipper stops, keeping your equipment safe and intact.

  • The clutch is composed of friction discs compressed by spring-loaded bolts. The force of the springs determines the moment of operation. Operating principle: when the chipper knives become jammed, the clutch discs begin to rotate, disengaging the load from the tractor.

  • ⚠️ The cardan shaft is not included with the wood chipper, but it is available for purchase separately from us.

A few times it happened so that the branch was just too big. The engine didn’t stall — it simply idled. I stopped the PTO, removed the branch and carried on. It’s smooth and stress-free.

  • The transmission components are enclosed within a double-sided casing for enhanced safety. The hopper allows crushed raw materials to be ejected in one direction only, minimizing the risk of injury. Additionally, the input is equipped with a protective curtain to guard against flying chips.

When I work, I don’t worry about my hands or clothes. Everything is closed. If I need to remove the casing, it’s quick and easy — I don’t have to spend an hour disassembling the equipment.

Reinforced input hopper

  • A robust bunker built to withstand impacts. During operation, branches frequently hit the bunker walls. Therefore, we designed it to be as rigid and deformation-resistant as possible

  • The hopper structure is reinforced along its perimeter with additional stiffening ribs and a supporting channel, while the attachment to the cutting module features a 10 mm-thick steel flange. This design prevents deformation or settling over time.

Output hopper for big-bags (FIBC)

  • A special hopper for big-bags (FIBC) ensures firewood is precisely directed into the bag. It is adjustable to accommodate different sizes, preventing spillage and keeping the operator safe from flying debris.

  • Sturdy 2 mm thick metal construction, reinforced with a pipe for extra strength. Adjustable to fit different sizes of big-bags (FIBC) (we recommend 1×1 m mesh ones). Designed to prevent accidental spillage and guide firewood safely and efficiently as it falls.

Rigid frame with a towbar

  • A solid base for long-term loads.
    The wood chipper can be easily transported being hitched to a tractor or trailer, thanks to its universal hitch compatible with both a towbar and a tractor trailer.

The frame is constructed from thick-walled pipe, designed to handle constant working loads. Its reinforced design effortlessly supports the weight of the entire chipper while withstanding the dynamic forces of operation. The universal hitch lets you connect the trailer directly to the shredder, enabling a seamless tractor–chipper–trailer setup.
